Favorites are Wilbur clearing (near the overlook on Mt. Prospect with great views) and Pecks Brook. Deer hill is close to the falls which is nice this time of year and for a larger group I'd try mark noepel. I'd stay away from Bellow pipe shelter, the middle of the floor was burnt out over a year ago and makes it tough to use if bad weather hits.

This thread is a little old but I had a few questions:
is there some place to park overnight, hike in on a trail, hang over night NOT at a designated campsite, and hike back to my car the next day?
I'm always unclear of the rules regarding where you can just hang a hammock and sleep.
Are the shelters marked? And are these typically where people decide to setup for the night?

Is there a reason why you don't want to go to a shelter. Really they don't want any stealth camping. As to the shelters being clearly marked the answer is yes they are.
