AR > Little Rock area overnight planning help needed!

Hi folks. I'm looking to do an overnighter with a friend who will be using a hammock for the first time. Work and family schedules are such that we can only get one night and it should be somewhere between the two of us (Conway and Arkadelphia). Thoughts? I've glanced at the Ouachita trail, but would really appreciate the expertise of this crowd. Thanks in advance!

r u hiking or car camping? for somewhere close, I like the Lake Silvia area off hwy 9 and 10. I think there camping area is close, but I always drive down the gravel roads till you find a place u like... Otherwise, Degray Lake around Lenox Marcus is free and primitive.

Thanks for the info. I know of enough places around Lakes Ouachita and DeGray. I've never attempted anything in the Little Rock area though, so I just thought I would ask. I was hoping to hike. Maybe a loop or an out-n-back. I'll keep looking some. Thanks again and I hope the AR Hang goes well!

I have heard that section 8 of the Ouachita trail is very nice. Never done it myself but an outfitter in Hot Springs told me it his favorite section. About 23 miles I think tho. Starts on Highway 7 and goes toward Benton. Not 100% sure about that mileage.

I would park at the Flatside Pinnacle parking area on FR. 94 and hike the Ouachita Trail down to Crystal Prong and stay the night there for an out and back. Or if yall are in two vehicles shuttle one to the FR. 124 parking area and traverse the entire Flatside Wilderness.

Go out Hwy 10/Maumelle Blvd. from Little Rock to Hwy 9 and turn left/South.

There's a trail from 9 to Lake Sylvia. It goes the other way, too, toward the Rockefeller grass farm. If you get to Paron that's too far. The trailhead should be marked. It was when I lived in Arkansas and went there often.

+1 to Hambone. That is a GREAT and BEAUTIFUL area. Crystal Prong should be flowing pretty good with all this rain we've had. And its about two miles down and back. Great for an overnight trip. And practically halfway between both of you (if you are not taking the interstate the whole way).

Thanks for the help folks. We're going to meet at Flatside Pinnacle tomorrow and depending on the weather, hike in a bit or camp at the trailhead. We'll spend a lot of time fiddling with his setup, sitting by the fire, eating some brats and onions and sipping on some whiskey.
