We had to close our climbing wall down at work today because of some paint we just put on, so I decided to do some testing. I had some tree straps i sewed loops on a while back and wanted to see if we could get the loop to fail under a static load (obviously taking a fall on them would break it and/or be dangerous). I figured it wouldn't take much to cause a failure because I didn't actually use much stitching when I sewed the loops.
We estimated the tension on the line was about 1000 pounds worth of force, and the tree straps came out looking completely undamaged.
I guess I don't really need to worry about whether my straps are going to hold me up or not anymore!
