Any way to quickly test double layer (for stretch)?

I've been playing with and comparing fabrics all day, just doing quick HH folds w/ sheet bend whipping and keeping them the same length so I can swap them on the stand. With single layers it's obviously easy to compare stretch, but now I'm at the point where I'd like to throw a double layer into the mix. Is there a quick way of doing this that will allow for an accurate gauge of stretch, or would I need to sew the ends together to make sure there was no length slippage, or would it really not be effective unless sides were sewn as well?

That's the theory, in practice just trying to see what Nylon/Hyper-D 1.0 + taffeta DL is like compared to the 1.6. Not expecting much added firmness, but I'm darn curious to find out.

    Thanks..

I would think you could repeat what you have been doing with two layers. Check for any slippage after 'testing'. On my double layer hammocks I only stitch a few short sections of the sides. The sides are generally floppy and do nothing structurally. Just make sure both layers are spread out under you.

So as you surmised, this worked just fine. Was just extra careful to make sure that neither one of the layers had any extra length/bunch before I whipped the second end.

I first thought I can do it with different fabrics but I was advised to use exactly the same fabric for inner and outer layer. Another point is really the care that the inner and outer layers have exactly the same size. I think one has to be more than careful to do it correct. I give an example what can happen too. I sewed a small test hammock a couple of days ago with some fabric I got from an old sunshade. (I tried to find a zipper solution for my future hammock). Although I was very careful and used an exact rectangular pattern I noticed that the inner and outer layer had a different stretch. The reason was obvious. Both layers had the same rectangular size, but the thread orientation was not exactly the same. I cut out at least one layer a bit diagonal. Greenhorn mistake. It will not make the same mistake again.
