I like refried beans. That's why I wanna try fried beans, because maybe they're just as good and we're just wasting time. You don't have to fry them again after all.
I would like to join the food drop. What container do you use? How is that done?
Two Tents or Harleynemo do you remember :
What is the expectation of water on this section?
The 2014DataBook shows water at the shelters. ( I usually carry lots of water, four liters.)
When backpacking I am more interested in water than food for the first few days; have a new miniSawyer that has never been used, expect it is time.
Thinking about vehicle parking and location.
Looking forward to this hike.
Expect to gain much while hiking with all of you : TwoTents, Ben, HarleyNemo and Yoda.

I'm going to put the grub in a med or large priority mail box and drop it at a post office, pay to mail it but have them hold it. Or if there is a business of some sort at the crossing, I'll stop and see what kind of vibe I get and leave it at a convenience store, junk yard in a vehicle, an unlocked shed, ect. Of course always willing to seal the deal with a $10 spot if needed. It will work out. No hurries/no worries. The other idea is we could spot one of the cars midway and resupply out if that. We'd just have to return the driver from Gathland. We may have to get a hiker clear back to PGF. We have parked in the upper lot for a week at Gathland before and PGF has long term parking as well. Just saying. Water is unsure but it is Spring so other than shelters I'd say we will be able to find it. Uncertain about some details but not worried! TT

I have a full set of AT maps of PA with the book. I happen to have the pages from PGSP to Route 30 here at work. It shows springs at:
Mile 0.0 Route 233
Mile 1.6 Short trail to the east leads 50 yards to Halfway Spring
Mile 3.4 Toms Run Shelters - I got water from Toms Run here
Mile 9.7 Birch Run Shelter - Spring to the west
Mile 12.1 A blue-blazed trail to the west leads downstream and across Milesburn Road to a spring
Mile 17.0 Quarry Gap Shelter - There is a spring right in front of the shelter
Mile 18.8 Caledonia State Park - Seasonal Restroom
Mile 19.5 US Route 30
I will bring a copy of the map I use for this section. Let me know if you want me to look up springs any farther south.

TwoTents,
All of those options are interesting.
Will follow your lead and place all food in empty peanutbutter jars ( 7"x3.5") placed in a priority mail box.
Having a car in the middle of the hike sounds good, yet the S.P. parking will be the safest.
Expect we will figure out the vehicle arrangements at MAHHA.
My backpacking gear is different from my MAHHA setup which is van camping gear. (Town&Country miniVan, no seats in back.)
I will be returning to NYC after the hike with a possible overnight in Harrisburg if necessary.
Thanks doogie for the information.
Changing my method of water carry and use; from easy to fill liter bottles to folded platypus-like.
Reading/watching ways of filling dirty water bags for miniSawyer filter.
Springtime water flow should not be a problem.
Always like to have plenty. Sometimes nice to give a full liter to another hiker near the end of a day.

Yes, doggie, bring your maps. I have a tub of maps that I've yet to find. It will all get sorted out on Saturday of MAHHA and we will have plans in place. NYC, huh? I'm bringing a guest for MAHHA and the post hike. She lives in NYC and Akron. She is such a sweet spirit. G...Hawk, you'll get along fabulous with her she loves her water also!

I did this section several years ago. It is an easy section of the AT...you can really click away the miles if you are so inclined. I believe everywhere you are staying has a spring. The POGO spring is right on the trail. I think Dalgreen campground is just before Gathland...they had a shower there
So you could get clean before your last day's hike.
I am still trying to sort out my details to attend as I missed the Fall MAHHA.

Sadly I may have to back out of this one.
