Re-splicing an existing whoopie with a hook

I apologize if this is already here somewhere, but a brief search didn't come up with anything. But I think this is probably something that has been discussed before.

I'm wanting to convert from a whoopie sling setup (sling directly attached to the hammock with MSH/tree strap) to a whoopie hook setup with continuous loops on the hammock. It looks like it would just be a matter of replacing the bead on the sling with the hook, correct? How difficult is that to do? I've done some fixed brummel splicing with smaller rope (braided mason line) but never done any amsteel splicing.

Since this is going to be holding my butt in the air, I want to make sure I do this right. If it makes more sense to just buy new whoopie slings with the hooks already pre-spliced on them, that's fine, but the miser in me wants to try to repurpose my old ones since they're less than a year old.

I have done that and have never had any problem, so far so good
don't forget to cut off the tag end on the adjustable part and then re-back splice it

It's not a problem. If you've done mason's line, Amsteel will be a piece of cake. Mark the entrance and exit points of the adjustable portion of the sling, remove the backsplice from the bitter end(either cut it or try to pick it out, cutting is easier) and pull it through so that you have one long piece of Amsteel with a fixed eye on one end. Just remove the bead, replace with the whoopie hook, and reverse the process. Make sure you keep to the same bury length. There's tons of videos around.

P.S. I recycle and repurpose my gear all the time. I would assume that's a pretty standard thing.

Thanks all -- not sure why I was worried. I was concerned that there might be a special trick or "gotcha" to worry about, but it looks like that's not the case.

Amsteel begs to be reused. As long as there's no obvious damage, like broken strands, you should be good.

It hooks to the Amsteel whoopies, Amsteel UCR's, the stock Warbonnet cinch buckles, and my go-to Dynaglide UCR's. One solution for all my suspensions. I use this on all my hammocks.

Not a bad way to go, I can see the benefits but I bounce between whoopie hooks and speed hooks. If I wanted to, I could have a WH on one end and a SH on the other, although I don't know why I would ever do that. Keeping continuous loops on all my hammocks has made life a lot easier.

Is the hole big enough that you can thread the hook onto it in loop form, or do you have to thread the hook on the amsteel before you create the loop?

I thread the hook onto the loop beforehand. I can't see it fitting through the hole otherwise. I just ran outside and snapped a photo of it in use. That's where I spend most nights of the week.

Ah, I see now -- it's just whether your hook is in the loop or the sling. Seems like a toe-may-toe/toe-mah-toe thing.
