Two questions for you on this:

    1) How long is your bury for this?
    2) Did you stitch the bury in place to keep it from coming undone like Grizz showed in his vid?

    Thanks for the excellend idea!
I think I made mine about 6-7 inches, and yes I definitely stitch the bury in place for this application.

The splicing instructions call for specific bury lengths, depending on the diameter of the rope. My bury length probably doesn't maintain the *full* strength possible, but I have tested it to weights far above what it will be subject to in the hammock without any incident. I'm confident in the strength.

Thanks for the intel and the links, AS. I'll get to work on those a little later on this evening.

Hooch, keep your eye just big enough to feed the whoopie thru. The first attempt I tried, my eye was too big, and wouldn't allow it to cinch down properly. Any good outdoor thread will work to tie in the bury, its just there to keep the bury tight when there isn't tension on the rope. Dental floss works too, if you don't have thread handy.

Yikes the splice for 7/64" requires separating strands and tucks! With 1/8" it's a simple bury. Much easier.

Also as an FYI, a "fid lenth" = 21 x rope diameter. Good to know when working with 1/8 & 7/64 for which you generally can't find fids.

This is probably a Bozo No-No but I have been known to secure an eye splice bury using a sewing machine with outdoor thread and a ballpoint needle. No problems yet, but I'm not pushing the idea, either. Just a data point FYI.

AS and Gargoyle, thanks for the advice on this. I made the loops/bury with no problem and sewed them in with a little polyester thread. I got Dancer's done a little bit ago and will do mine in the morning. I put some small pieces of Ideal Heat Shring Tubing (available at Lowe's, Home Depot, Ace, etc.) on the ends to cover/protect the knot of the bury ties and to give them a more finished look. Thanks again, y'all!
