Making the switch to hanging in Huntsville, AL

    Hey everyone,

My faithful tent has seen over ten years of use and has needed to be relieved from active duty for some time. I was on the AT last weekend and actually saw some hammocks up close for the first time. A friend let me hang for a bit and I was hooked! Since I'm already in the market for a new shelter/sleeping solution, this seems like the perfect time to jump in. I stumbled upon these forums and was overwhelmed by the sheer amount of information and knowledge of the community.

I look forward to learning more in the days to come. Thanks!

Well, that didn't take long. First hammock purchased courtesy of the forums.

Looks like I'll be starting out with a HH Expedition Classic and we'll see where it goes from there!

Thanks for the welcome. I'm actually not far off 431. Been through Fayetteville several times in route to Nashville.

Welcome from Decatur. You should check out the group hang in the Sipsey Wilderness in late April. There will be lots of hammocks and knowledge there!

That sounds like it would be great! However, I'll be returning from Nepal that weekend and will probably be jetlagged.

Hello and welcome to the Forum from Prattville.
To bad you cannot make the April hang, it's gonna be a dandy!
Sounds as though you are off to a good start. Enjoy.

Ah, the good ole Arsenal. Many people know of Huntsville only because of that base. I've never really been there except to play disc golf though. They have an incredible course!

Thanks for the welcome! Yeah, I wish the April hang would work out, but I'll probably just need to aim for the next one. I guess this gives me a little more time to figure things out in my backyard before giving it a go with everyone else. I look forward to joining y'all at some future event.
