Hah, good to hear although you didn't have much extra gear, just heavy bits and bobs (what did your sls weigh, maybe a kg?). My base weight is officially well into the ul category now still trimming and when I struggle to get lighter I'll add some comfort or durability items back in.
I'd stick with Dutch at that price, too many people selling Chinese garbage over in the UK to warrant the effort. Especially when it's the price of one freeze dried meal.

I think the sls weighed about 600g with straps and karabiners so once I started making sub 400g quilts it had to go, it's now my landrovers tow rope :-D. I may even try a lighter bag as a possum chewed my aarn pack a couple of days ago, though I can't ever see myself with that tiny Swiss army knife you had so I'll only get so light ;-)

Hah, I've got a year or two to think about it, you are right though.

Not as bad as I thought. Good excuse for a new bag I've carried my laplander saw lately, but don't see a need for a bigger knife atm... and the scissors are very handy.

It's a good excuse but those Aarn packs are ridiculously comfortable and well made, seriously pricey though so I should really give a DIY bag a bash. Did you get your backpack made? Laplanders are great for more than one (or a silky) though I don't often need it and just use my cheapo mora.

I've got 1 not so good one and 3 1/2s atm lol! I think I'm ready to use decent fabric now... you could always deconstruct the aarn and use it as a pattern with lighter fabrics and any any adjustments you want?

I've had a couple kevlar straps hanging out year 'round for four years now, and I see nothing that indicates they've lost any of their strength, just in case anyone is wondering.

That's good news! Apparently it goes brown as it breaks down, any sign of that? Even after 50% loss of strength these 2000lbs bs straps shouldn't have any issues holding most of up.

Another thing to consider is that the trees we hang from will provide considerable shade. I reckon someone hiking on fairly open trails with the straps on the outside of the pack i.e. in a mesh pocket will notice UV damage quicker than someone who spends days in camp with the straps attached to a tree. I might be wrong though.

I forgot, I weighed it with Dynaglide leads as well the other day, 46g with the same setup!
I might try it this way on a few trips to see how it holds up, I'll be carrying amsteel leads as backup for a while as well though!

No, I haven't noticed browning. They've faded a fair bit, but if anything, I'd think the threads will fail before the strap. My straps have been hanging in the direct sun and weather the whole time. Under normal hammocking use, I don't think I'd be too worried about them.

Interested to see how the dynaglide and hammock anchors held up for you.
