TX>Quick Trip To LSHT For Those Who Can't Make It To Goose Island>April 10-12

My sched doesn't allow for a trip to Corpus and back and I need to get out. A couple of folks have replied to the Facebook post I made, so I'm putting this here as a better way to plan and to invite others.

Tentative plan right now is to see how far an old man can walk in a day. I haven't done any real, honest to goodness, long distance stuff since 1983, so I figger I've rested enough.

Tentative plan is to meet at Parking Lot #6 after work on Friday, then leave one or two vehicles there and drive over to Parking Lot #4 to park and hike in a mile to the campsite at the intersection of the Little Lake Creek Loop and the Pole Creek Trail:

    http://lonestartrail.org/maps/medium/02kelly_sc.pdf

Next morning, wake up early and head towards Parking Lot #6 either via the Pole Creek/LSHT route, or LLCL/LSHT route. If we make it all the way, we spend Saturday night at Hurricane Cove, if not, somewhere a few miles from parking Lot #6. Either way, we use the vehicles left at PL 6 to shuttle back to PL 4 and head for home.

Got 4 definite coming with, and a couple of possibles.

Point of clarification. Goose Island State Park is in Rockport not Corpus. We are way better than those hoodlums.

    Weather Check---Bring your poncho!

We're at the point where the Weather prognosticators get brave enough to make predictions this far out. Looks like all of them agree that there will be thunderstorms. Guess my new tarp will get the test it needs.

Accuweather calls for a thunderstorm on Friday and one on Saturday afternoon, and mostly cloudy on Sunday:

    http://www.accuweather.com/en/us/mon...2223686?day=10

The Weather Channel is more specific, calling for the storm on Friday to be in the morning, and for scattered T-storms Saturday morning, a storm "likely in the evening" and others "later on".

Weather Underground gets down and dirty and says the chance for T-storms in Saturday exists all day long, with a 60% chance between 2 and 8 PM.

Night time temps in the 60's, so Underquilts R Us.

Ponchos and/or rain jackets, extra socks, dry sleeping clothing.

    Who's still in?

I'd really like to go, and think I have everything I need, but I have yet to have a trip planned that I haven't had to bail out of for one reason or another. Gear and Fear have been the problems. Gear I've fixed or acquired, fear's mostly healthy to an extent and due to my solo trips but I'm learning to manage it. If no body minds a Newbie tagging along I'd love to go.

Come on down. We'll grab that fear by the culo, swing it around our heads in a big circle, and chuck it into the woods.

Haha, Thanks Sarge. I'll put in the time off request for Friday on Monday and I'll have a definite yes or no. I'm excited about this one, I've been wanting to see some of the LSHT.

Great! We'll actually be seeing most of this part of the trail for the first time together. I've not hiked this section before, either.

Let us know what time you should be arriving. Parking Lot #6 is on FM1375 West of I45, past the Ranger Station on the north side of the road. Its kind of easy to miss---ask me how I know.

I should be getting there between 1900-2100 depending on traffic from the Bear Creek area.
