Ya how'd it go? I got to set up my Smokehouse on Saturday even if it was just in the backyard.
Anyone have any pointers on how to keep from getting resins on the tent from the smoke stack??
I'm thinking about adding one more section to the stack if I can.

I think it went to -10 but I couldnt tell in the smokehouse. Toasty! My only gripe,the amsteel triangles dont allow me to completely close the zippers. Mods are in order. Other than that cold hammocking will never be the same

The wood is good quality hard wood. I believe it's ash. It's weird because I did the burn in on the stove with crappy wood(only for a couple hours) and the stove pipes where clean. Back yard test the stove was running for a complete day but the rain cover/spark arrestor had resin dripping from it and the pipes had resins all over the inside. I might contact Kni-Co to see what they recommend.

Nice and easy weekend at Valens
I arrived Friday around 4:00 pm, set-up, made dinner and relaxed at the fire with a few pops, weather network said it was -12 but there was a pretty good wind which continued till Saturday afternoon. Highboy arrived Saturday morning and after setting up his new toy, then dinner over the fire, Sunday brought the sun and decent temperatures for breakfast and tear-down.
The only issue was I froze the battery in my BlackBerry again, LOL, but finally started working when I arrived home, (that's when I realized how dependant I am of my Z10)
All in all a great weekend, but now I'm looking forward to some nice weather and paddling to my campsite

Kni-Co is checking with manager and getting back to me.
**Kni-Co got back to me quickly. They were scratching their heads a little also. I would expect that in crappy or scrap wood but thought the wood looked pretty good. It burned without all sorts of popping and crackling so I have to assume it was cured properly and didn't have a load of sap in it.
They suggested at first to drill some holes in the top pipe but the manager doesn't believe this would help. They also recommended that I bend the corners of the spark arrestor up. I give it a try. I bought an additional section of pipe hoping that the added length will clear up any drips. The woman from customer service was very nice. She said I'll pay for the pipe if you pay for shipping. That was nice.
I also talked to them about making another floor for the stove so I didn't need to carry sand. She recommended using either thin Fire brick from Home Depot or ceramic tile. good ideas. Excellent Customer Service.**

If you are burning primarily softwoods like pine and balsam fir, then ditch the spark arrestor at the end of the pipes. They tend to clog rather easily. As for operating your stove properly, you want to be sure to burn you stove hot enough that you don't create creosote in your chimney pipes, but not so hot that you stove and pipe glow red an you use way more wood than necessary to be comfortable and to cook with.Originally Posted by LuvmyBonnet
