    Initial outfitting questions

I have come back to hammocks after several years. I find great new technology and products available. But I don't know one from another. That's why I need the forum's help. I am looking to place a sleeping pad of some sort under my body inside my summer hammock. It needs only to help separate me from the cool damp air of the late night. I am not looking for an under blanket.

I am also curious is there is an hammock sized inner flannel sheet on the market. I can't seem to find one.

Thanks from a newbie on the forum but a lover of hammocks off and on since the 50's.

Hi John. Welcome to the forum!

Flannel sheet? Hmmm. That's a new one to me. Having slept on a bed with flannel sheets, I know that it causing friction and thus restricts movement. A sheet would resist staying in place and half way through the night, it would snake its way out of the hammock and onto the ground. I would recommend just using a sleeping pad and a 3 season sleeping bag, it you're looking to keep the cost down.

    Welcome from Midland, TX.

I was wanting to get some of that space age stuff that is silver with the black holes in it; to see if that would be good for insulating, or a sort of vapor barrier. It is expensive though...

Well heck, I haven't visited this in a while, and the price has gone down to half?

Anyway, take it easy, and welcome to the forum!

I just use a queen sized flannel sheet. I put it under me, and then around me. I haven't always done this, but after waking up cold in the hammock at 70 degrees in Florida in August (freak cold front), now I always have a fleece sleeping bag liner just in case.

Pads are too hot--they don't breath. I don't use them above 65 degrees or so.
