    First Cord Order!

After 3 years of hanging and avoiding the amsteel bug I've placed an order with Dutch for 50 ft of amsteel and 50 ft of zing it. Time to learn to make ridgelines, continuous loops, and anything else my heart desires!

One question I had, how hard is it to cut this stuff? Will a decent pair of scissors or knife do the trick?

I find a pair of sewing sheers work well with Zing-It, but I like a knife with Amsteel.

I use my pocketknife and a cutting board. It's tough but nothing a sharp edge can't handle.

My first attempt at cutting zing it with dull scissors was laughable. I like a sharp knife on a cutting board now but I imagine some quality scissors would work for the smaller line. 7/16 amsteel I'd stick with a sharp knife.

I definitely prefer a knife and cutting board. Don't use your good sewing shears!

Don't....start...splicing. I made a set of whoopies while waiting for my Warbonnet order to come in. I remember the feeling of accomplishment when I'd completed them...then that disappointment that I wouldn't be making anymore unless I got another hammock haha.

I've don'e 1/8 and 7/64 amsteel so far...cut both with scissors...just had to make sure you have tension on them while cutting. If you're going to taper the ends I think they recommend you cut them on a 45 degree angle.

Just got my order in from Dutch. 7/64 Amsteel for continuous loops at the ends of hammocks, and Lash-It for a ridgeline (initially adjustable, then I'll make a fixed length one)

Just one question, will this tiny stuff really hold me up??!?!!

Yes as long as you use the 7/64" amsteel and weigh less than 1000 lbs.

As for cutting it...you will quickly learn if your knife is truly sharp or not. With a sharp knife and a cutting board it cuts like butter.
