We try out other people's hammocks at group hangs.

For me, an 11ft hammock is better than a 10ft one, so that decision was made. Then, i had tried 60 inch wide hammock, and wanted a little more width, so i had Randy make me a double layer that was about 69 inches wide, loved it. My next one Randy made i wanted a single layer in the 1.6 HyperD and i wanted it WIDE, so i could really get sideways. He ended up making me a foot-side wing hammock that is 11ft long by 72 inches wide. The lay is incredible and the hammock weight is awesome too. I love both of my Thunderbirds.

If you like the length of the XLC, then consider staying with an 11ft hammock. Width is still going to be a personal thing, but if you go wider than the fabric comes (adding wings) you will pay more. For your weight, I would then lean towards a DL in 1.6 HyperD. From here, I would email Randy, give him your specs and see what he recommends and can do for you. The tbird comes with a ridgeline organizer, but i upgraded both of mine to add the PeakShelf, love them!

    HammockPete,
The email I just sent bounced back as undeliverable.
I agree with everyone's comments so far. Definitely an 11ft length and a double layer of the 1.6oz HyperD fabric should provide you with plenty of support. The finished width of the hammock when using this fabric would be limited somewhat to 58 or 58.5".

What length do you have now? Do you like it? Is it for car camping or long distance hiking? I'm 6'1" and love the 10 foot length for backpacking, its lighter and I can use a shorter tarp thats less weight. If your built like a sharpa go for the 11'.

Hammockpete, i am also a good size guy and prefer a wider hammock, i had Dream hammocks add wings to my Thunderbird, dl Hyper D 1.6 to end up with an 11 footer that's 72 inches wide and i love it.
You can look it up on thier site - order # 1358,, good luck.
