Prepper vs UL hiker thread - nuked?

Did someone seriously erase the preppers thread? Sad cause good conversation and links are lost because of 4K protect eveybody mentality. Just curious.
I like reading stuff even though I dont agree with everything. Sensorship at work.

Prepper vs UL hiker thread - nuked?

Can't find it. It was an entertaining and informative read despite there being some inevitable mudslinging. Perhaps it went further downhill after my last read.

If it got nuked, why did that happen versus just reprimanding people who were pushing against the TOS and/or locking the thread? Seems like the baby might have gotten thrown out with the bathwater on that one. Like I said, informative read.

    Thanks for any clarification.

Although I don't think I posted in that topic, I was reading along. I would also like to know why it was deleted.

I would also like to further [kindly] inquire why topics are being deleted, instead of simply being closed. It is common courtesy on online communities/forums that the moderator who closes a thread makes one last post (before it's closed) explaining the reasoning as to why that topic is being closed – but leaving the topic in place, NOT deleting it.

If the above isn’t followed two very bad things start to happen on a regular basis:

1.) Gems of wisdom (which can shine in even the most asinine of topics) can be lost. And that is a detriment to the teaching/learning atmosphere of this forum to loose such insights.

2.) If the moderating staff never posts why a certain topic was closed, how can the rest of us learn what to avoid in making similar posts/topics? ...again, that's counter intuitive to what this forum is about and in the end will ADD to the amount of work the moderating staff has to do on the forum.

…and this is coming from a person who has been an administrator of several large forums in the past (the largest topping out at 64K+ members if my memory serves). Just some food for thought for the moderating staff (which we are all grateful for your hard work on the forum).

I'm all for deleting a post or posts that violates the TOS when a thread derails, but killing a whole thread seems like overkill and a loss of good information. I know we need to consider the efforts of the mods with policing this stuff, but it sure discourages contributing to any threads if there is always the risk that a troll or two might have the power to get the whole thread deleted. So again, just curious about a nuke versus a "stop it, thread locked" response, assuming a nuke happened.

If it didn't happen, consider this a tech support request pointing me back at the thread.

And it is always going to result in threads like these asking "where's that thread" or "why was that thread deleted?" On every other forum I'm on mods will delete/edit posts that are against the TOS and close threads with an explanation from a mod as the last entry.

One even has a section just for closed threads. So if a thread is closed, a mod will move it to that section where it will quietly live forever but everyone can still view it.

The thread may make a reappearance but it needs to be cleaned up first.

Mods have jobs and lives and we don't always have time to clean up threads and warn people as things happen. Sometimes when a thread gets heated the participants just need a little time to cool off.

The thread has been cleaned up and resurrected. Keep it clean and respectful.

As the original poster of that thread I don't quite see why it was completely hidden from public view?

You can PM or reply here.
I would like to know specifically what caused the severe censorship.
This is just so I'm aware and can remain a good member of HF. It's not to get convince you to change your mind or whatever. The thread had a good run. I just want to get your logic so next time I start a thread if I see the issues arising I can address them as the OP to help with moderation a bit.

    Thanks,

It's really all in the Terms of Service and has to do with the spirit of HF.

    Be respectful
    Keep it family friendly
    No firearms discussions
All discussions will be kept civil
    Don't intentionally place contentious posts
Please don't be offended if a moderator removes one of your posts from this section. Such decisions will be entirely at the discretion of the moderators.
    etc.

When the posters are unable to determine the limits, don't care to abide by the rules, or don't know the rules, the HF staff will step in. Sometimes it's easier to remove the entire thread then to have to determine on a post by post basis and remove 28% of the posts as was ultimately done in this case.
