I have been using figure 9s with my amsteel ridgeline for several seasons now. Quick and easy! I did just switch my wife's tarp to Dutch stingers and zing it. (No ridgeline) I like them just as much and that are quite a bit smaller.

Years back tarp ridgeline was paracord with one figure 9. Currently using a DIY Zing it ridgeline, a Dutch titanium tarp hook on one end and a Dutch titanium tarp fly for tensioning on the other. Tarp is secured on both ends to the ridgeline by mini linelocks. S'all good.

Used the small one, with the 'biner, for two years before I went Dutch. I still have it and use it regularly, just not on my tarp. Excellant piece of equipment.

Do yo use anything to tie the ridge line to the tree? Like these dutch hooks?

Nope, I just hook the figure 9 to the tarp...then I larkshead the zing it around the tree (I have a bowline on one end)and attach it to the figure 9, quick and easy. I do not use a ridgeline with my tarp. Tarp straight to the tree.

I went to the craft store and got a package of split rings (like used on key fobs). I used the split rings to put figure-9's on both ends of the ridge line (so I don't have to remember which end it is on). I tie a bowline loop in 3mm cord (REI -$5.00 for 50 ft) and mini-biner it to one end of the tarp. I go around the tree (and back through the biner), down and around the other tree, and connect to the other end of the tarp with a figure-9. I also put figure-9s on the guy pull-outs (with split rings). I found I prefer to adjust things at the tarp end rather than at the stake end.

The split rings are a safety in that they will fail before anything else. If the wind is strong enough to straighten them out, I can decide what I want to do - move camp to a more sheltered area or connect directly to the tarp straps.

I use the metal figure 9s with 2.2 mm zing-it continuous ridge line. The 1.75 mm zing-it does not hold well in the figure 9s but the 2.2 holds OK. i still add a slippery half hitch to make sure it doesn't loosen.

I hung my tarp with some paracord and a couple figure 9s the other day. Worked great. Eventually I'll upgrade from paracord due to the stretch but its what I have for now and it works
