I was watching a few videos of the Blackbird XLC and noticed that the zipper location prevents the bugnet from being fully flipped over when half unzipped. has that been a problem for anyone? would it be harder to reach the zipper pull from the inside if it was closer to the hammock end?
when not using the bugnet I like to have it half zipped on one side so that it can be flipped over the ridgeline and out of the way as much as possible.
It hasn't posed a problem for me.
It would definitely be harder to reach the zipper if it was much closer to the end of the hammock. I think the position chosen was a compromise that favors access versus having a semi-convertible top or a heavier more zipper bound hammock. For my usage I prefer having the zipper where it is in a convenient place. It pays off every single time you exit the hammock, while an end positioned zipper only pays off when you want to be halfway in between netted and entirely net-free. Maybe six inches closer to the end would have been a better choice, but much further than that and it would be a serious struggle for most people every time they wanted to get out of the hammock.
Yep, have the same issue. Found a way to work with it and is no longer an issue.
I hang a little stuff sack/ditty bag from the ridge line. When I flip the net over the ridge line, I flip the bag at the same time and it pins the net on the other side.
You can also install a quick disconnect on the exit side tie out and then clip the tie out to the other side when flipping the net over.

yup your video was one that I watchedat the 8:20 mark I noticed it seemed to get in the way.

I haven't found it it to be in the way, just not 100% open like the original black bird.
It was something I listed as a 'con' in my pro/con review. I wish it zipped to the top of the head end. It would be nice to have it flipped all the way back. I notice it most when I'm using it as a chair/lounger and the net is still lingering near my head.
I put an 8-9" reflective 550 zipper pull on the inside because I always get in, lay back... and realize my zipper is at the foot end from when I got out. Doh! The extra length is awesome. That long zipper pull would make zipping to head end a non issue for me.

This works well, i also have added a long piece of zipper pull for easier to get the end once i'm in.
i asked about moving the zipper location closer to the end, and was told it was a $20 custom surcharge and that only one other person had asked for it up to now. i decided to skip it and just ordered it as-is.
i received mine last weekend and haven't had much time laying in it. part of me wishes i had gone for the custom zipper location knowing what i do now after having spent some time on the xlc, but i'm also ok with it the way it is.
