Chattooga River over nighter and gear review

Had a great time on the Chattooga River. Met up with BillC523 and headed to Burrell's Ford for a short Foothills and Chattooga River trail loop hike. I was able to try out three new pieces of gear and each one preformed great and made the trip more enjoyable. I finally bought a top quilt, a Wilderness Logics King Size and it not only saves space but is very well made and wide enough for my side sleeping. I have sleeping bags that range from -20 to 45 degrees and have used them as top quilts for many years and never saw the need for one. My mind is changed and blown away. The next thing was a change in the suspension system. I've been using Dutch Buckles and whoopies for a long time and like them but they increased the distance between trees and made sight selection difficult at times. I got a set of Cinch Bugs from Dutch and love them. I was able to hang in spots that would have been too close together before. The last new piece of gear was the Kovea Spider canister stove. It's a remote canister stove that gives you the ability to invert the canister in cold weather or to get that last bit of fuel out of the can. Works great from a simmer to a roaring boil.

    Looks great.
    I'm with Chigger.
I haven't been to the Chattooga for a long time.
    I've missed it.

Nice area. The rug rats and I did an overnighter last spring. They have been asking to go back.

Hey 2Ply...did you hike near the fish hatchery in Westminster? Family and I went up there early last summer on a Saturday for a day hike and the place was packed out with fisherman for the first mile or two past the bridge, then up around Ellicott Rock it started thinning out. I just got the WL SS quilt sets and absolutely love them-warm yet very small and light.

We were on the other side of Burrell's Ford. I've camped and fished many times around the East Fork below the hatchery area, it's a great spot. I've been using the SS short UQ for a couple of years now and really like it. Marty makes a great product.

i'm glad you got to try out the new gear, sure wish I was there, but.... I too have my eyes on some cinch bugs.
If you prepare for failure you will probably succeed.

Really like the cinch bugs! Not having the whoopies eliminated at least 5 ft of distance between the trees. They are easy to adjust and set up was no problem.
