I still use my first DIY single layer hammy after 4+ years. I have tried several other gathered end and bridge hammocks and like them all.

If I were to buy a hammock, it would be a Papa and Mama Smurf built UL Darien single layer. It is 11' and has a simple integrated bugnet with zipper on 1 side only. It's longer than my DIY and a little wider and it feels a little more comfortable than mine.

You can get many features on different hammocks, but, the features are to give you more options while you hang. I believe it's a personal thing like fit and finish in a car, bed, pool etc.

Have fun buying and experimenting. Only you can determine what you like....and you'll have a lot of loaner hammocks for friends to go on your hikes.

Are you comfortable in your current hammocks? Do you get a good nights sleep in your current hammocks? Are you happy with your current hammocks? If you answered yes to these questions then, no, your'e not missing out on anything. That doesn't mean you wouldn't like one of the Cadillac hammocks better because of some of the fancier features, but if you're current setup is fulfilling your needs then there's not a whole lot the higher end ones can do for you beyond that.

If you're not going to a Cadillac bridge hammock I'm like the others -save your money and make your own 11' gathered end hammock and Fronkey style bugnet. Love my Ridgerunner.

I definitely bought the feature set, not a perceived great leap in comfort. I don't sleep in general so laying in a hammock is not the holy grail for me. I nap awesomely but a full night's sleep escapes me. Between my Dutch and my XLC my body feels the same when I get up in the morning. If I had not been on a multicam kick I could have done all of this a lot cheaper but hey, you gotta look good while you are all alone out in the middle of nowhere.

Honestly, don't trust any of us. Go to a group hang, try different ones, and see what you like.

You'll never know unless you try it However, you might very well find, that you like one of your simpler hammocks best. Comfort is very personal. I have many hammocks; simple no-nets as well as some "high-end" ones. I have a favorite one for indoors, and a favorite for outdoors. My most comfy indoors hammock is currently an 11' DIY no-net hammock from quite sturdy 2.6oz ripstop nylon. With +75" it's also extremely wide. For outdoors, my most comfortable hammock by far is a 10' WBBB. I don't know why it feels so superior to all the other hammocks I own; my guess is, that the footbox and the whipping have an influence - but I also think that the BB is more shallow than most hammocks (the ridgeline is probably longer than 83% of the hammock body). Although I'm very happy with those hammocks, it doesn't stop me from getting and trying new ones. Maybe I'll discover an even more comfy one

I live in Michigan, the bugs here start in April and don't stop till October. An intergrated bug net is a must have. I have a WBBB and diy gathered end hammocks. I like my 11 foot diy gathered end better then the WBBB. I have tried fronkey style bug nets and did not like them. So Caddilac hammocks win out.
