Good Day from Salt Lake City, UT

Hello everybody. I am a long time camper/outdoor enthusiast, but am brand baby new to hammock camping. For the longest time my family were primarily car campers and I never really had to think about anything that really pertained to backpacking. I graduate this May from the University of Utah (GO UTES!) and as a grad gift to myself I decided to plant new roots in the outdoors via backpacking. As I found myself deep in the dark abyss that is youtube, I came across an interesting character who introduced me to the lightweight backpacking style of hammock camping. I would like to give a quick shout out to good ol' Shugemery. Thanks to him I have had a new sparked interest in hammocking have already got myself a decent setup ready for this spring and summer. Thanks to everyone on here who has also helped me out with random questions about suspension and tarps and whatnot. I look forward to learning more.
    KEEP ON KEEPIN ON!

Welcome to the forum and the world of hammock camping from a fellow Ute! While I'm relatively new to things myself (been hanging for about 2 years now) I'd be happy to help you out if you have questions. I love to see local support for hammocks!

I love the Uintas. There are no shortage of great places to backpack and hammock camp up there. My first hammock camping trip was Redcastle. I've done many others since then, Mohawk lake in the Grandaddy Basin, Island lake, etc. etc. At first I was nervous about finding a good place to hang in the mountains. It turns out that was a senseless worry. I've never had a problem finding a place to hang in the Unitas. In fact, I've found it's usually much easier to find a place to hang a hammock than it is to find a suitable tent site. After a little experience you start subconsciuosly looking for places to hang and realize they are all around, you just never noticed them before because you didn't have the hammock mindset. I can't count the times I find myself driving down the freeway and seeing some trees and thinking, "Those are about the right distance apart to hang from..."
