You could always buy direct from the Yukon-Outfitters. You won't get the savings you might from Woot, but you are also not waiting for Woot to have them on sale.

I see a lot of new members purchasing these hammocks because they are inexpensive. I purchased one for my son a few years back. Out of curiosity have any average sized adults here spent a night in one? Did you use a structural ridge line? If so what length? What were your impressions? Have you since purchased a bigger hammock?

I'm 6 foot 1 and I've spent some time in the mosquito hammock. But I modified it to have a structural ridgeline that goes under and through the net (similar to the mods you see on here for the skeeter beater pro).

Its clearly too short for me but its actually acceptable. Its not better than a properly sized hammock, but it works. I think it works because there is significantly more netting than in a hammock, say from warbonnet or hammeck. So, when I added the ridgeline, I gain a little bit more netting fabric and the ability to stretch out a bit more (by nearly having my feet spill out of the hammock body).

Most of the people in my son's scout troop use hammocks so, of course, we wanted to give them a try. My previous hammock experience was with the netted ones from the late 80s and I never considered spending a night in one. I had just bought a new tent so didn't want to spend a ton of money on something we may not like. Fortunately the Woot deal came along. I gave my son a double for Christmas then searched for a tarp. Not wanting to spend a lot on a tarp, I was thrilled when Yukon Outfitters offered a tarp about a year later, so I ordered another double and 2 tarps. I'm 5'10ish and 215 lbs, and find this hammock very comfortable (much better than sleeping on the ground for sure). I've only slept in it about 6 nights so I'm still getting used to it. I have not made a ridgeline yet. This is my first, and only, hammock so I may not know what I'm missing out on .

To be honest, I think I used a bugnet maybe twice with any hammock. I don't camp in the summer so never really had a need. If you are going to get a Yukon Hammock from Woot then I recommend the Double Hammock. I use one as my daily sleeper. I'd get the Mosquito Hammock for the kids or Scouts. It's an affordable alternative to say a Hennessy. The Yukon Rain Fly is a good fair weather cover, not sure I use it anything heavier than a light drizzly if it rains.

im 5'6" and about 150lbs ive taken a few naps in the yard with it, will be taking it camping for the first time next weekend il let you guys know how it sleeps i guess, no ridge line i been too lazy to try and figure that stuff out lol, if i like sleeping in it im gonna buy some better suspension im just using some steel beaners on the factory rope and some 3/4 poly straps, wrapped a few times to reduce bark stress. also just using a cheap walmart tarp as well lol. its brown / silver underneath atleast not bright blue a 50degree mummy bag should suffice a low of like 60 is forecast for now, with a blue camp pad underneath me hoping il be fine lol.

bugnets here are a must specially out at the river they swarm bad. never considered a hammock till i seen this on woot a while back when i bought mine, so far i love it, great quality on the build one time i fell out into the bugnet and the bugnet suspended me i thought for sure i was going to rip it, moreso when i was trying to get out lol.

p.s. today is a woot off kind of unrelated, but throwing it out there

I love mine and it was not my first hammock either. I find my double hammock more comfortable but I use the Yukon as my hiking hammock to save weight and the double for car and winter. I have helped 8 other friends ditch tents and they all use the Yukon. On the flip side I have never owned or spent a night in some of these cushy $100+ hammocks so I can not compare to them.

Here is how I mod the netting to add a ridge line: https://www.hammockforums.net/forum/...39#post1445239
