40 degrees, kind of dumb question...

I'm heading up to Rocky Gap State Park (http://www.dnr.state.md.us/publiclan.../rockygap.html) for some volunteer work. I'm leaving on the 18th and camping so I don't have to wake up uber early on the 19th.

The story: The last time I slept in my HH was on the beaches of Oahu, HI where I didn't need a pad or really anything other than a sleeping bag. Will using a sleeping mat give me some extra warmth for the 40 degree night I'm facing in the upcoming couple of weeks? I have a REI full size mat but I'm thinking that probably won't work out too well...

What to do, what to do?

Why wouldn't it work? If it doesn't go to the ground. You will be okay.

Is the pad you have a closed cell foam pad? Also what is the thickness? I have made it pretty close to 30 degree with just a 1/2" ccp. If you are worried you can always buy tthe $5 ccp from walmart. That has served me well as extra insulation when I needed it.
Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

If you intend to be more than an occasional hanger then it behooves you to define and develop a viable bottom insulation plan for yourself.

Here's what I have...I'll have to hang out for a couple of hours this weekend and see how it works out.

Pan, you're absolutely right for creating an insulation system.

    Thanks for the heads up!

If you use a pad, you'll want something to protect your shoulders and hips.
