Guys this thread is in the hangout and trip planning forum yet it reads more like an off topic discussion about closed trails that belongs in the DM section.
If we are not talking about a future trip then I will have to move this thread.

Well my original purpose for posting the information was to help people with making trip plans on the SHT. It sort of took off on a few other tangents. I think it's become a pretty well known fact with all the coverage by now so it matters little to me where the thread goes, this just seemed like the logical place when I started it.

I agree. Info like this can be very helpful when planning a trip.

Yeah, it's too bad there's no way to split out the sub threads each to a more appropriate place. It'd be better if there were an option to split it off when you write it, but even then, i know when I'm writing, I'm just responding. I'm not thinking of it as being the beginning of a sub-thread

Individual posts can be moved anywhere but without a topic (first post) they would not make much sense.
The issue is the free side of Hammock Forums is pretty strict the discussion of hammocks and hammock accessories are just about all that is allowed.

Hiking, camping, cooking, food, cloths, boots, etc etc is all discussed in the Donating Members forums.

As a volunteer to help keep things organized and on topic I have to try and figure out where threads like this go.
It's tough when the OPs info is important to the hanging community but then the discussion heads off into the weeds.
Which opens the door for other to do the same thing in other threads and then what do we have? Whiteblaze (a hiking camping website) with an orange logo.
