I think the general consensus for the rule of thumb is 83% of the length between the attachment points of the hammock and ridgeline while it's flat (not hung).

I have a Grand Trunk double that is 10'-6" (126") so 83% should be about 104-1/2" ridge line length. I really like 88"-90" because I get a nice deep sag with the micro diamond ripstop that has zero stretch/give to it. I find in my ENO which is shorter but made of stretchier parachute fabric; I can use a longer ridge line length percentage wise. I think there is a direct correlation between fabric type stretch/give and sag, hang angles, ridgeline length, etc. Has anyone else found these characteristics between different makers & materials?
That's an interesting point about fabric stretch and ridge line length. I also find that with my Dutchware 2.4 hammock, which has nearly zero stretch, that I prefer a little shorter than 83% for my ridge line.
