    Delaware Water Gap Campground recommendations

    Hi,

I am looking to do a family trip (with hanging for some) over Memorial Day weekend. The campground needs to be pet friendly as we are bringing our dog. I spoke with Camp Taylor who will permit hanging and allows dogs, but seems a bit pricey. Any recommendations?

    Thanks.

Where? It looks like no one here had a place to fit your needs, maybe some have similar needs.

Camp Taylor campground. I have not been there before. It is a private campground. It has a wolf preserve on it, which i figured the kids would enjoy.

I will update after the trip. They have been polite and professional so far, so that is an excellent sign.

Update: The campground was nice, some "primitive" sites and then sites for RV's. I would definitely recommend using sites #85 and higher as no RVs can really get up there. The staff were courteous and nice. We had no issues using the hammocks and checking out was simply walking in and saying bye. No problems with wildlife.

The wolf preserve was a nice touch, the kids were really excited to see some wolves and a silver fox and a bobcat. We could go for free any time other than when the preserve was offering a tour (twice daily - though i note their drivers were, how shall I say, a touch aggressive driving through the campground)

One thing to be aware of is that except for the main building (where the showers are) you are using a port-a-pottie or an old style pit toilet. The one closest to us (a brief walk) was fine through Sunday morning, but then it started to get full. On the positive side there is access to water. Easy to get to places in the Delaware Water Gap, but traffic can be an issue (not the campground's fault obviously).

Overall a nice place with some nice sites and nice staff.

How was the hanging part? Was there plenty of trees on the campsites to set up your hammock? Ive been planning a trip there for a long weekind and have always tent camped but really want to bring my hammock now!!

    FreshStart:

There are plenty of trees and we had no problem finding a spot to hang two hammocks. I would look for sites #85 and higher though, more space and trees between them so a bit more private.

Thanks for the feedback. My sister and her family just visited the wolf preserve but didn't really scout the area for hammocks. I want to take a trip up there and also have a dog.
