Real world, how many degrees would everyone say a top cover adds to a BB in different weather conditions and temperatures?
I can count on it being ten degrees warmer in there. Problem is, it's more humid too. In the long run, you may lose more heat from condensation and vapor than you save by keeping the space warmer. But just being out of the wind, even out of the breezes is the issue for me. I still want a hole in the top like you see in the picture to let the water vapor out.

Wonder how a light weight cotton over cover would work ... got to be more breathable than even uncoated nylon ... maybe that would work without the blow hole? Just a thought. Might be an interesting experiment with an old sheet.

I am going to take my dry duck poncho and make a weather cover out of it. I would like to get another one for the top too.

Just got off SKYPE with the blonde .. apparently I won't be touching any of "her sheets" to cut for my hammock! Ha!

With the way the top cover attaches it is very easy to vent if you decide that you need to. All you need to do at any time is detach the head end loops from over the whipping bundle. It will still stay in place with the wings guyed out. but you will have a 8-10" opening at the head end, just above the top of your head. Doing that will also cool down the hammock if it is getting to warm.

cotton doesn't sound like a very good material to be making out door gear from. If it gets any moisture on it, (and chances are very good) cotton gets heavy and takes a long time to dry. Maybe try silk instead if you don't want to go the ripstop nylon route.
Well not counting on it getting wet ... just damp from condensation. The whole idea is to stop wind from entering the top of the hammock but not create an indoor sauna. Sent my daughter to pick up a cheap poly cotton sheet to play with when I get back to the states. That way the cute blonde I'm married too won't kill me for pulling one of her sheets! Might not work as anticipated but what the heck. Good thing about a thin sheet of cotton blend ... it does dry rather fast unless the relative humidity is past the EMC.
Told her to find an earth tone one too ... she likes Carolina Blue ... can't go that route!

Got my cover yesterday. Got to play with it a little. It's pretty idiot proof to use, except I'm an idiot . . . I put it on backwards at first and then I pulled up the wrong end tab to pull it off and twisted up the end tabs all wrong. I'm going to mark the head of cover with red thread. And mark one end tab on each end with red thread so I know which tab to pull up first. I talked to Paul about this and he was already thinking about this and is going to use diffent color end tabs material and probably mark head end of cover some how.
My problems were minor and easily solved. The cover really is easy to put on and fits really nicely. I love the way BB zipper is below the cover and how the cover stays on even when you unzip the BB. This will be good for venting. Plus the way Paul described venting it. I know condensation may be an issue with a cover like this, but with a hole at top at each end and the zipper venting, there may be a way to minimize it. Don't know for sure, so come on cold weather.
I always wanted to experiment with a cover on my HH. But since the zipper is above the tieouts, I didn't know how to make one that would work with the HH without a big hassle getting in and out of hammock. So I did without. Entry and exit, none issue with this BB cover.
