So I finished my first two hammocks this weekend both were made from poly/satin from the local craft store (I love the strange looks from women when buying yard goods). One blue 6' and a cheetah print 10', both were for my kids and they picked out the fabric.
The blue one I hand rolled the side seams

and the cheetah one went through the rolled hem foot (a pain to get started but works good after you get moving)

Both got inch and a half triple stitched channel at the end for amsteel continuous loops. We spent most of the day once they were finished laying on the front porch in them. The shorter one makes a good chair for me and I will probably make a couple more that size just for that purpose. In hindsight I had enough of the cheetah print I could have made it a little wider by adding a panel on each side, works good for my daughter who is six but a little narrow for full size people. All said and done I feel pretty good about these and learned a lot. Now I feel more confident cutting into the ACU ripstop I got PIF from another member.
On A side note I bought a cone of thread impulsively before I realized it would not go on the hand me down brother thread injector I have. Not wanting to buy or make a separate stand I came up with this, probably not original but highly functional.
Old standard thread spool stuffed inside.

On the machine winding a bobbin.

I also learned that using the wrong bobbin will make your stitches awful.
