ok, thanks.
Thanks for this good review. I've looking at the Vertex for a while. I'm glad they offer just the Double V now. I'm just not sold on the weathershield specially since you need a tarp any way for any serious rain it seems.
So the only real advantage would be the built in bug netting and I don't think that's worth the extra cash
So I'm leaning to getting the Double V with the velco on it so I can either buy the Z liners our make my own.

The weathershield is good against light rain but one huge thing it does is keep in the heat if you are camping in colder weather. A tarp against the big stuff, shield against the smaller. It does make a huge difference in ambient temps, something one notices when they unzip it after as little as ten mins. Come morning after a full night it's quite the difference. No need to wrap up your head, etc.

Yes, as a longtime Clark user I can vouch that the weathershield is not just a goofy gimmick. It makes a real difference in temperature inside the hammock in the wee hours for certain. It is completely different than just a close-pitched tarp. It reduces the weight of the sleeping bag and clothing I need to stay warm inside the hammock everywhere but my back side.
I understand the space being able to be warmed like a small tent using the weathershield. But how much less of a top quilt will it let me carry. I have a DIY quilt set up that I've used in th low 20's, would it let me use my winter bottom and my one pound lighter top quilt or even light one? There in is part of my dilemma. If it doesn't the weight saving just doesn't balance out.
Plus my wife really doesnt do overnights with me, she prefers the camper. But I think she would like this and would possible join me on some hiking over nights with this. But the whole weathshield set up is pricey for what would be late spring early fall mild weather conditions use anyway.
If I try the Double V and don't get a lot so use out of it, no big deal.

For me it's just about not needing to have my face covered up or needing to wear a balaclava. I'd say it feels about 10 degrees warmer inside than outside. Enough that it is quite noticeable by sun-up.
Nice review I just won one of these vertex 2 person hammocks from Clark. Not something I would have ever bought myself but since it was free I'm gonna use it! Plus it came with a super nice silpoly tarp!
