Howdy folks! I'm itching to get over to Torreya State Park (located about 30 miles west of Tallahassee) for a quick overnight. The park consists of two 7 mile loop trails with primitive campsites available. It's probably the best hiking in Florida. There is actual terrain (like... cliffs and stuff), beautiful river views, and a wide diversity of plant and animal life.
My plan is to hike about 10 miles on Saturday, camp for the night, and finish out the rest on Sunday. The great thing about this park is that the loop trails (at least on one side of the park) are set up like a wheel with spokes, with the parking lot at the center of the wheel. So if you don't want to hike nearly that much, you can find a much shorter route to get to the camp site. I haven't picked out or reserved a campsite yet - which one I get will depend some on who decides to come along.
I'm fine with either May 9-10 or 16-17, with one potential issue - I just placed an order with Packit Gourmet, and I need it to arrive before I can go. I expect it will arrive by Friday, but I'm not 100% sure.
Because this is a Florida state park, you must use tree straps that are 2" wide or wider for both your hammock and tarp suspension.
If anybody would like to join me, please let me know!
