Looking for ideas on a 2 person hammock and attaching underquilt

I searched out and found that this has been discussed before but I was unable to find a definitive idea that worked. I am looking at building a double hammock similar to the clark vertex (which I cannot afford). If there is a thread out there with a successful diy of one of these please point me to it as I had no luck finding one. I have the concept figured out in my mind I think "there's not much room in there", but question the exact measurements of how to join the 2 and create just enough space to be comfortable yet not have way too much. (Separate project)I am also looking at the idea of permanently attaching my under quilt to my hammock body. (I got the idea from brother bones at bone fire gear) So i have come to the masters of hammock for advice and guidance. Any input is welcome.

Russell, solve one problem at a time. These are interesting, but tough projects. With each prototype you will see possibilities for improvement that will lead to the next project. It's difficult to throw away something that worked because it's part of something else that didn't.

I agree WV it will defiantly be an ambitious task to accomplish either one. God only knows how many DIY projects are stored in the building that didn't work the first time and ended up modified in the second, third, forth and so on revisions.LOL.

I've been contemplating the same thing. I think I'm going to start with a pair of double whoopie hooks from Dutch and a spreader pole and start prototyping from there.

As an update I found this thread on insulated hammocks and it appears that the bigest issue is simply accounting for the stretch of the hammock so as not to compress the insulation and reduce its insulating capability. My initial thought was to sew the long sides of the hammock and under quilt together then install a cinch cord (elastic) with the pull in the center to allow the under-quilt to be tightened up around the shoulders and legs for a comfortable fit and the ability to open it up if its too warm. The down side is not being able to adjust the quilt up or down the hammock body. In the end your placement i assume would have to spot on in accordance with a consistent lay every time.

Sounds like a plan I am not a fan of whoppie slings and prefer my straps. I was contemplating a ridge line that was adjustable on the foot end and a "Y" at the head to hold the bug netting up. i want the whole system to be as simple to set up as possible without having to string up separate ridge lines for the netting then put the hammock up and have the tarp above all that. The simpler I can make it the more apt I will be to use it but at the same time I will have to balance comfort.

Russell, let me think on this one for a while. Perhaps you could call me and I could get some more information, as typing takes so long. Then you can type the highlights if you want to share (which is nice).

This guy came the closest that I've seen. Most people just hang in separate hammocks off 3 trees and under 1 tarp.
