What about the weight difference between a zipper bug net around the perimeter of the hammock vs. a Fronkey style bug net? I added a Fronkey style bug net to my DL hammock and it seems like I have double the weight of the system (39oz). Would a removable zippered bug net save weight or is it a equal trade off between losing the extra netting vs. adding a zipper?
Ridge_Dog, I have not mastered the video tutorial, but I will try to explain it the best I can. I bought my no see um from RIP Stop By The Roll and my zippers (#3 coil) from DIY Gear supply. I started with the 2 pieces of netting both exactly the same size, the fabrick width by the length of my ridge line + @ 2 inches. I clipped the pieces together on the top (ridge line ) and then draped it over my hammock. I then used a silver sharpie to draw the estimated curve of my hammock as if I was laying in it plus an under quilt attached. It is surly a guess but if you get someone to take a picture of you in the hammock you can get pretty close. I then cut the curve. Next I measured down from the top of one piece about 12-16 inches and drew a straight line the length from one end to the other and cut that. You could just cut the opening as long as your zipper but it is easier for me to sew the zipper this way. My opening is @4.5 feet. I sew the top part to the zipper using a zipper foot and do two rows of stitching. Then I attach the bottom of the one piece the same way. I then sew 3/4 in grossgrain on either side of the zipper to close the cut and to act as a stop on each end of the zipper (overlapped on each end of the zipper). I then sew @ a 4 inch piece of velcro on to the top ends to allow for my suspension. This is done on the two individual pieces. once that is done I cut 2 pieces of velcro about 2 inches. These are sewn into the top so I can attach the net to my ridge line. I then just sew the perimeter of the net and I am done. I am not a hiker so I am not trying to shave ounces. I works fine. I do run some reflective cord through the zipper pulls to handle easier. Hope that is somewhat clear. I will try to get a picture up tomorrow.
I don't think there's a zippered bugnet on the market that weighs less than a Fronkey-style bugnet (7 oz.).
Your system weighs double of what? If your system with Fronkey bugnet weighs 39 ounces, then 32 ounces of that are the DL hammock, and seven ounces are the bugnet.

I went to the back yard to get a few pics. Quality is not great but here they are.

Right. Keep your eye out for Sheltowee hammocks. They said they were developing an 11ft RL zippered bugnet.

sorry, i misunderstood the question in that thread when I said that was something I was working on... I AM working on a built in zippered net hammock, NOT an add on zippered net; that's something you can get from multiple vendors already.
I currently offer a Nanoseeum Topper that is similar to the Fronkey style, but utilizes stakes and shock cord to for a tight seal instead of a bottom cinch, which can be finicky (although a lot of people choose not to cinch them anyways). Mine weigh 4 oz (plus 1.5oz for two stakes and shockcord). They are built for 105" RL's but I can make them sorter or longer for no extra cost.
** I've had several people buy them to use on other hammocks besides my Boone with great success. But the high side wall built into the Boone offers more overlap along the sides than other hammocks may provide. **
