I love topless. I try to get my wife to do it, but she says she always feels like folks are staring at her...
...I guess we do have lots of possums and owls.

"I wonder if anyone else has an ear so tuned and sharpened as I have, to detect the music, not of the spheres, but of earth, subtleties of major and minor chord that the wind strikes upon the tree branches. Have you ever heard the earth breathe... ?"
- Kate Chopin
I always put my tarp up, in the event that it does happen to rain, but I fold the tarp over to give better air flow.
Porch mode most of the time. I was going to go "topless" tonight but 90 some percent chance of rain so that's out. At least I get to listen to the rain against my tarp.
Went tarpless last weekend & loved the huge moon.
Those dang squirrels kept tossing nuts down from the trees though which made it interesting overnight.
I prefer sleeping topless. As long as I'm not in a spider or some other creepy crawly dense area and its not raining of course. The best thing about it is it removes over a pound from my pack when i'm backpacking I think most people would like it if they tried it. You are right about it being a mental thing.
I've been doing this more and more lately. It's just so much nicer than looking at a piece of fabric over your head.
I went to Deam Wilderness in southern IN this past weekend. 63° and sunny...January...crazy!! Anyway, without a chance of rain I figured I would save myself the hassle and just enjoy the view.

Very cool pics Mark. I go tarpless at times. Got woke by bats tickling my nose as they ate the mosquitos. Who needs a bug net either!?
I am one of those who loves going topless but always have the tarp ridgeline set up and stakes in the ground.... just in case.
Hangin' High and Dry
Very nice Mark...nothing like it, living free to the views.
Any frosting/dew issues from being a clear night...or the trees providing enough radiation loss protection to keep the super cooling effect at bay?..or super dry humidity?
Life is too Short to not feed the addiction....Hang on and explore the World
I go sans tarp every time I think I can get away with it. I feel most secure when my field of vision is maximized. Especially if I think I might encounter critters. I also just love the openness. Although one of my best experiences hanging is when there is rain, maybe even lots of it, and I am hanging thinking there is no place I would rather be than right where I am. Doesn't get any better.
