    CRL & prusiks question

I am about to order a new tarp, and thinking of switching to a CRL with prusiks over the tarp, possibly adding pole mod later on. My understanding is one end of the CRL would have a S biner. It would go around tree #1 and clip to itself, then how do you tension and tie off the other end to tree #2?

The tarp ties to the CRL via prusiks with S biners or toggles that attach to the tarp tie outs, correct?

Should I incorporate bungee in the prusiks to keep tension on the tarp RL? Not entirely sure how this would be done.

Lastly, can I use grey lash-it (1.75mm) for my CRL, or do I need a thicker diameter line/less slick line? Thanks.

This is the idea I am going for:

Lash it will work. Prussiks from lash it will also work.

    Second tree-
You will have a prussik and clip on the loose side. Run the crl around tree, place prussik in position and clip back to the rl. Pre tensioning the rl for best results. Then guy out the low ends of the tarp.

Another option is to go around tree, back towards tarp tie out, tension rl, slide prussik/clip to align with tie out and clip it.
New line and prussik are slick. Slide the prussik back and forth to break them in.

I think this is exactly what I had envisioned. There are no V's in the RL at the trees. Is that important? I have seen it pointed out before, but the above picture doesn't have them.

I used to use the CRL, but I have now gone to a cord on each end. I just made a new CRL for my 14 year old son as I do think it's a little easier to center. I added the Dutch hook on one end. I also created a small Prussik look out of the 1.75 zing it that I installed about 20 inches from the Dutch Hook. This will allow him to run the hook around the tree and back in the Prussik loop. This will create the "V" and allow him to adjust to the size of tree. On the other end, I added the Dutch Wasp and back-spliced that end. I then made two soft shackles using Opie's thread to attach the tarp to the ridge line.

That was my first continuous ridgeline with Nite-Ize knotbone and Figure 9. I've since moved onto Dutch Hook on one end, and Dutch Wasp on the other end, with soft shackle prusiks attaching the tarp to the ridgeline.

There is no need for shock cord in a tarp ridgeline, but I'm always amazed that people think it helps. I am also baffled at why the V thing became popular - I think it was something dejoha thought up. It seems to address a problem I don't have or choose to ignore - tarp ridgeline rubbing against hammock suspension. It apparently annoys some people to no end, but it doesn't even register with me as a concern.

You think I am ok using 1.75mm lash it for the ridge line on a superfly? The SLTRL from whoopie slings uses 2.2mm line, recommended for tarps that size.

1.75 mm is fine - not much difference between 500 lb. breaking strength (1.75) and 650 lb. breaking strength (2.2). It's all overkill for a tarp ridgeline anyway - you'd probably be fine with braided mason's line at 30 lb. breaking strength. I just find 1.75 mm Zing-It to be the best general-purpose cord for tarp ridgelines and guylines.

Dutch's model uses 1.75mm as well. Thanks for the help.

I have these on two tarps. While it's possible to make a lighter set up (and cheaper) you'd be hard pressed to come up with something easier to use. Hook on one end, Flyz or Wasp on the other for tensioning and two soft shackle prusiks to both connect the tarp and allow you to position it on the ridgeline. Price of admission was well worth my time not having to mess around.
