So I came up with a pretty easy way to cut the hammock stack pack size in half, sort of.
I made some parts that allow the user to cut the legs in half. My materials may be a little pricey, but I wanted it to be as light as possible.
First I bought some 1 3/4x1 3/4 aluminum square extrusion, got 12 delrin clamp collars, and 12, 2 1/2 inch, 1/4 inch diameter pieces of titanium.
Drilled 1/4 inch holes in the aluminum and assembled everything.
It seems pretty rigid, at least enough for me to bounce around in the hammock :-)
Here are a few pictures.
