    Knotty Mod

I remember reading about the knotty mod but now I can't find the instructional thread. I've entered in Search but only seems to come up in other threads where the words are mentioned: as in "I did a knotty mod."

Can someone pl post either a link or info on what a knotty one is and how to do it? Tx

I have made that mod to a couple of table cloth hammocks and it really helps. I just made holes in the edge and tied knots in the shock cord.

It's the best mod for a hammock IMHO. No more flappy sides and does a good job of acting as a foot box to help keep your top quilt from sliding over the edge. I use one on the head side and one one the foot side. I do small button holes in the hem (before I sew the hem) then run shock cork through it with micro cord locks on each end. Can cinch it up or let it out. One tip I found is to measure over from the raw edge of the fabric enough so that when you do your rolled hem the holes are on the underside of the hem. Then when you tighten the shock cord, the excess hangs under the hammock. I think in the future, I will just sew flat elastic into the seam eliminating the button holes and cord locks. I always have mine cinched up to some degree.

An easy method is to sew a length of grosgrain ribbon along the hem of the finished hammock at the location you want it. Run a stitch line down both sides of the grosgrain and then run bungee cord up the middle. Use cord locks or just tie knots. I don't find adjustability to be important anymore.

Thats a great tip from the man himself. Thanks!
When you say you "don't find adjustability important anymore", is it because you like it "gathered" to some degree all of the time?

Yes. I mostly use detached bug net hammocks and like sleep on both diagonals so I put the mod on both sides of the foot end and just leave it gathered.

I wanted to thank you for originally posting this mod! I had tried so many different folds, whipping methods, cutting curves in the ends of my hammock etc.. all to get the sides less floppy. Now, I can sew a GE hammock that looks clean and neat with no floppy sides. My wife has four mods on her hammock so she can adjust the tension around her face and feet which ever diagonal she lays on.
