Converting stock suspension w/ whoopies..... tips?

Later this week I'll be swapping out the stock ropes on my HH Expedition and was wondering if there's any info out there I'm missing. I've seen the videos on Dutch's site and bought the 15" whoopie slings already. I only had a few minutes to look at the hammock and confirmed it is the older style (?) with the holes in the ends - not the flat webbing.

For anybody that has already done the conversion: is there a "best" way to run the fixed loop of the sling through the holes? And I'm guessing I'll need to attach the ridgeline to the whoopie sling - any pointers for that as well?

    Thanks in advance folks.

Enjoy the whoopies! I made the switch recently and am quite happy with the ease of the conversion and the performance of the items. It has significantly cut down my set-up and take-down times, which was my primary aim, along with wanting to make it a no-knot suspension.

What do you do with the ridge line when adding the whoopsie slings? I looked at my gathered ends and the ridge line, to me, looks like it is just overhand knotted into the ropes. Is that true? I just bought it and I don't want to screw up the ridge line!

I'm just about to make the same conversion. Anyone still use the Super Shelther after swapping to whoopie slings? I've got the undercover on at the moment and it doesn't look like it will be a problem reattaching to the whoopie.

Also, to second the question about the stock tarp, does the prusik knot hold up as well on the more "slippery" amsteel?

Converting stock suspension w/ whoopies..... tips?

Hey folks. I'm going to be doing this conversion this week. Note that the connections for the tarp are *NOT* prusiks but rather klemheist knots - https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Klemheist_knot. This knot is like a prusik but should be able to grip better. If it slips, add another turn around the whoopie sling.

Not sure how recent your hammock was purchased, but mine (Jan 2015) does not look at like the video. They've obviously changed the design on newer hammocks (Expedition). In fact, this is knotted pretty much like any other gathered end hammock, with the ridgeline attached to a loop of webbing on the inside of the hammock and not the suspension as in the video.

So, if you're making this conversion you may instead want to follow the gathered end hammock video and not the HH one.

Pics below of the knot on my Expedition...
