I wanted to make a hammock for each of my two children, on the cheap. So, I put my frugality to the test once again, and picked up some material from a thrift store and from W-mart..... add a pair of scissors and a sewing machine, and a few hours, and ...voila....

I have tried to include a pic of my daughter modeling one of the hammock and tarp combo sets I made for the kids this summer. This is actually my son's set - my daughter selected orange for her hammock and tarp. Hers has a white netting, made from some curtain material from the thrift store (it is actually pretty durable!). This one is a copy of a 'Claytor' -It has the double-layer bottom. I used info / instructions I found on hammockforums.net

I want to say 'thank you' to all who contribute info and experience, which has been very helpful in my DIY efforts!!

my nine yr old took custody of my first hammock a eno double, after 3 nights camping in it she was hooked, got home and she woke me and ma up cause she could not get comfy in her bed, the next morning, we modified her bunk bed and made a double hammock hanging stand. Why a double stand cause she wanted her own colors for a hammock so she conned grandpa into buying her another eno double in the blue /green colors. so now when she has sleep overs or her lil sister wants to sleep in the room there are two to choose from,, pics coming soon
i do not remember the question, however i believe beer is the answer

    me too!

I got both of my nieces into hanging (indoors) and both have their hammocks in their bedrooms ..... outdoors is fine for both of them, but only in the daytime, both are afraid of the critters now. I should not have mentioned anything about the bear swimming across the lake 50 yards away, oh well!

    90 nights and still hanging

This morning I caught Thing1 sleeping late... looks like she doesn't need that ridgeline.

I think MacEntyre already hid the camera from me! The picture is definitely me though, I'm about to fall out of the hammock and most of the covers are on the floor!

That's a great shot Mac. Shows the true comfort of the hammock, even a PINK HAMMOCK.

I've been talking about putting a hammock in Joker's room. Don't have permission from the boss yet to get rid of the bed, but she's agreed to building a loft bed and hanging the hammock underneath it. Rooms to Go Kids had a full-size metal loft bed a while back...the only suitable one I found that was strong enough, but I didn't really like it much. Maybe I'll start looking again, or thinking about buliding plans, while I keep working on Jennifer to do away with the bed altogether.
