has anyone seen this show on the natgeo channel... the guy is out in the woods with minimal stuff and what do you know, he was smart enough to sleep in a hammock...
wonder what kind of hammock it is?

You mean Alone in the Wild?
Interesting concept ... and they have the videos available online at
http://channel.nationalgeographic.co...ne-in-the-wild
Lot of build up ... lot of gear including a hammock ... but a few days into being alone ... he starts breaking down .. cries when a helicopter flies over and he's not seen ... don't even think he was out more than a couple weeks at that point.
Ends up bailing out way short of his 90 days. I think at the 55 day mark.
Everyone has their limits ... but this was bad ... actually just sad. Especially after all the hype on his abilities and experience ...
Haven't been in the states to see if the show has aired but it was suppose to show in Sept.
Probably have seen enough whining on the videos to suit me ...

It's been on UK tv for a few weeks now.
It's easy to be an armchair expert but he didn't do well as far as I could see. Seemed to spend most of his time in tears - really quite tiresome to watch after a while. I'd say he was psychologically unsuited to the challenge and very bad at fending for himself. OK so it's easy to say "I could do better" when you're never (hopefully) going to have to prove it but I honestly think very few people would do worse.
Also turns out that far from being "Alone in the wild" in reality he was less than 5 miles from a tourist lodge and actually within sight of it most of the time.
Almost fraudulent if you ask me.
There's a long thread on the subject over at bushcraft.uk: http://www.bushcraftuk.com/forum/showthread.php?t=45501

the link worked for me......the conversation mostly deals with how he was not prepared to actually kill anything for food, his fear of ursa and the way the producers edited his footage to make him seem less likely to make it, which he didn't..even though he did make a good try at it for 7 weeks....thats really the whole of the thread there. then its just criticisms toward him or the people making them and how everyone thinks they could have fared in the wild.......seems many of them refer the UK often as if they think it took place there and not Canada. Hope that helps til you can get home and see for yourself Hawk-eye.
