    New to Hammocks

Hey all! My name is charlie and I am fairly new to all this hammock stuff. I have a good amount of experience with hiking (army), not so much on the camping side. I am also a little diva, I generally bring an inflatable mattress with me and yes it is stupid heavy (easily 15lbs including the battery operated pump). I don't mind the weight for short distances but have not really done much past 3-5 miles with maybe a 60 pound pack. On this most recent trip my friend, mcochran28, introduced me to his WarBonnet Blackbird DL 1.7 (and hammockforums) and I was hooked instantly. The weight, the convenience, the comfort, just insane compared to what I was used to. Any advice, tips, useful information, anything you can add or introduce me to I would be most appreciated.

I look forward to all my future trips and participating in this forum. Stay well everyone!

Welcome to the site. From experience, I don't know how much I would consider Army rucking = hiking ... LOL. Although, they both get you from one point to another.

Looking forward to pics from your part of the country.

    Hello and welcome.
2 quick tips that you have probably heard a dozen times already, but just in case.....
watch the shug videos and check out The Ultimate Hang, by Derek Hansen ($6 for kindle version). These two together will get you off to a great start. Derek also has a good blog.

Welcome! Watch all the Shug videos and read as much as you can, or want to here. This is a great resource! I would be thinking about getting a good tarp and an under quilt and a top quilt, and you will be hanging like a pro! Good luck, I too "humped" a ruck all over the world, I wish the hammock tech was as advanced 30 years ago, I would have slept alot better. No more ground sleeping for me. Welcome again!
I have slept in a hammock on every continent from -20 to +128, under direct and indirect fire, from frost to fungus except Antarticia.... But give me time... Thank you Uncle Sugar!

Yea my army rucking was way different than hiking is today, however, I had a platoon sgt who was quite the outdoorsman so we ended up doing a lot of legit hikes all over Georgia
