    Very cool! If you have positive results, I would love to see a detail and make myself a set. What material are you using? Steel?

    UPDATE!!!! I hang last night and they work good but you have to tie a slippery half knot behind them or they will slip. I guess thats why Elephant trunks have three slots.

    DrPhun, I don't see why that wouldn't work however from a construction stand point making that tight of a roll isn't easy.

    jkeeper, I used some .125 thick 303 Stainless Steel because I had some on hand. I believe aluminum would work too.

    what about a variation of the roll pin buckle?
    like this but with a hook instead of the triangle;

    I'm not sure how would you put the pin in there without some voodooing but.... it might be an option.

    I made a thread asking about these. They're made by HammockFan and sold through Butt In A Sling. There's also a video on YouTube showing how they operate/adjust. Basically it's a buckle system that stays on the strap.

    I really like that design, gives double contact area for the whoopie sling.

    I agree. The single hook concerns me. Even with chamfered and rounded edges, I'd be concerned about wear on the slings.

    If your using an adjustable buckle such as this, couldn't you replace the whoopie with a dog bone? There already an adjustment at the buckle, so a whoopie would be redundant.

    Or just a continuous loop.
