Amsteel is very slippery, and notoriously bad at holding knots. While there are modifications that make many knotswork with Amsteel, it's an awful lot of fuss and frustration for something like tarp tie-outs here you want line that's easy to tie but doesn't need to be all that strong.
I feel this same way about ZingIt! or LashIt!. I too like knots and have noticed a learning curve with the coated hollow core line. Most ofmy taught lines and whatnot need an extra couple wraps to hold. The coating on the line will eventually wear off and it will help a lot once the line is not so slippery. I use 1.75mm ZingIt! but have considered using the 2.2mm version for my lines and then using the 1.75mm stuff for my hitches/prussiks and whatnot as the smaller line will bite the bigger line better. YMMV.

See my above post. ZingIt! and LashIt! is also very slippery. Just be aware of that.
I went ahead and ordered a 25ft hank of both diameters of ZingIt! (1.75mm AND 2.2mm) in order to decide which direction to go in. FYI The 2.2mm is easier to work knots with (wont fit using dutchware.) If I were you I would do that if you can with the ZingIt! and the Amsteel and decide for yourself. I would also recommend getting a hank of Lawson Glowire as well ( as I plan to do ). I have heard that its characteristics are more like 550 cord in that it holds knots very well and and is easy to work with. With the ZingIt! not holding my knots very well....I foresee me switching to the Glowire for my guy lines. Also, I love the reflective side of it.

In case you weren't aware of it, I think it needs mentioning that Amsteel Blue, Zing-it and Lash-it are all the same Dyneema brand line at different sizes and colors.
Amsteel comes as small as 7/64th and Zing-it is yellow, while Lash-it is grey. That's why they are all slippery and are similar in handling.
If you do get a bunch of Amsteel, there are many applications and things you can make with it. Also, it floats, so you can make tow lines, throw bags, etc. for small boats, kayaks, canoes and such.
Enjoy and have fun with your family, before they have fun without you
