So... being a bow hunter, I happen to have a lot of old carbon arrows lying around. What can I do with them that's hammock/tarp related....?

I happen to shoot Easton Axis arrows with H.I.T. inserts (hidden insert technology). These happen to be 500's (the spine/stiffness of the arrow) and have good flex to them. Since the inserts have no lip and are designed to go down into the carbon shaft, an idea came to me!

I cut four arrows into equal sections giving me eight pieces. I glued half of an insert into one end of each section. This allowed the sections to be snuggly connected.

Then I realized I could utilize the arrow nocks too!

Each complete pole (4 pcs) was 54" long with a nock on each end. All eight complete sections weighed in at 61.7 grams!! Awesome!! Below are some test pics in the yard with my HG winter palace tarp.

I used a lark's head knot on one side and a marlin spike on the other. Both worked equally well. If I pitched a looser tarp, I could actually snap the nocks directly into the side pull out rings.

Porch mode! I tested my pole set up this weekend on an overnight hike. Worked great for porch mode. You can see in the last pic how the green arrow nock snaps onto the plastic rings on the HG tarp. Strength is not an issue with these. They're carbon fiber and are designed to be shot out of 60-70 pound bows!

As far as storage goes, the sections fit in nicely with my Sven saw. It all goes into the sock and gets velcroed closed. This then goes in the side pocket of my ULA OHM.

The uses for these are endless: side pull outs, porch mode, build two sets and go double porch mode! Uneven ground? Use three sections on one side, four on the other. Cat stuck in a tree? Put all eight sections together and push him out! (joke)
With the weight only being 61.7 grams, I'm going to make a second set just to see what all uses I can come up with!
Happy Hangs,
Carl
