Memorial Day in the Cheaha Wilderness Area

Memorial Day weekend, my son and I, along with Obmit here on the forums, and his son, took a little backpacking trip along part of the south Cheaha loop. My son and I drove up and spent Friday night at Cheaha falls. Saturday morning, Obmit and his son came in and we hung around the falls all day and let the boys play and swim. Had a little incident with my DSLR camera and some water....but it all turned out fine once the camera dried out.

Sunday morning, we packed up and walked back out to the cars, left one car parked there and drove the other down to Adams Gap. We hiked from Adams Gap, along the Skyway Trail to the Chinnabee Silent trail, and camped at Devil's Den. It's a nice waterfall area and swimming spot. Lot's of day hikers come in from the Chinnabee Lake side. Monday, we packed up and hiked the remaining 3 miles or so back to my truck, and dropped Obmit and his son at their vehicle, then headed home.

Great trip indeed, really enjoyed the hike, as well as the hang...and the company was great as well. Looking forward to another trip down the road.

Thanks for sharing the adventure. That looked like a great camp spot by the river.
Everyone ought to believe in something....I believe I'll go set up the hammock!

Wish I could have joined you guys! Small foot injury kept me at home. How did Ashley like his new pack?

"Thomas" loved it, Ashley is the old guy (me). Worked out well, he only had about 18 pounds with food and water. Of course, I think he would have eaten 18 pounds of food if he had carried...the boy is an eating machine. Gotta love the energy and metabolism of a 13 year old boy. Hope your foot gets better soon.

Thanks for the trip report, Ashley. The Skyway is the only trail I haven't completed in the area. (From the campsite at 17.25 in your video to Devil's Den was new to me.) That dinner you had along Cheaha Creek sounds good!

It sure warms my hart to see you with your son out in the great outdoors. Makes me want to get out and camp with mine this weekend.
