VA- Big House and Little House Mountain, Lexington, Virginia May 23-25, 2015

A group of us hiked both mountains this remarkable gem of a mountain; two in fact. We camped in the saddle between the two mountains. I was the sole hammock camper. Everyone else used a tent for this trip.

The video shows good camaraderie, good hiking and some beautiful vistas.

If you don't have time to view the whole video, look at the last two minutes. These show fellowship, goodwill and sharing a most beautiful mountain. Hope you enjoy.

We did 2ply. The views were literally stunning. I'd been joking with the group on the hike to the overlooks, particularly the first hike to Little House. You'll hear a lot of banter during this hike through the rhododendrons. I hadn't realized how the view had quieted everyone into just gazing until I put the video together. Everyone just sat around and gazed. No talking, just gazing.

I mentioned that I was the only hammock. I discovered others used hammocks but elected not to for this trip. We still had a good time talking shop.

It was a weekend that would be great to repeat. The group I went with focuses on backpacking destinations. Good folks. We camped in a mountain meadow that had been a homestead in the mid-1800's. Beautiful setting, spring about 1/10 mile away, ancient apple trees. I could see why the original farmer had built his home there. Waking up each morning with views like we experienced would be a good day to start any day.

Wish I had experimented more with my cell phone before the trip though. Next time I'll know to turn it horizontal. This was first trip I've relied on it versus a digital camera.

Ickeeper1, it was a great weekend. Convergence of pretty much everything that is good with a backpacking trip. I look at the video clips of the summits again this week and marvel at them. But the camaraderie of the group hiking together made it special. You might want to look into the Trailblazers. Link included below. Individuals within the group host trips all over the area.
