    85g ultralight silnylon tarp

I had a scrap of 0.6oz/sy (possibly a little less) non ripstop silnylon lying around for ages and it was irritating me as I couldn't think of what to build with it.

I decided on trying to see how light weight a tarp I could build, which turns out to be 85g or 97g in the stuff sack. The width was only 57" which is probably too small for even a asym tarp and it'll probably rarely if ever get used. Surprisingly the fabric is water-proof as tested by my scientific method of putting a few litres of water in and seeing how it holds when you squeeze it a bit. its shown with a hammock just short of 11' and also my 0.5oz/sy UQP that's nearly waterproof and should offer some wind blown rain protection.

Well done, Scotty! I like the nice, gentle cat cuts you applied.

Hey, is that an over zealous camera flash, or is it actually sunlight in the UK? :-)

Nice! What about a kid-size tarp? My son's hammock is only 8' and will be for a while. LOL. Second the 'sun shade' idea. Or a tarp over a seating area or hammock chair....3oz is amazing! If anything, you could use the material as a bladder for water collection/filtering...

Unless you are worried about torrential /side ways blown rain, I think you will be fine for coverage- might hang a little lower if it gets bad. Good looking ultralite tarp.

If it's sunny here I'm not for blocking it! :-D

The misses is almost kid sized so I may get her to experiment with it. Thinking about the tarp more though it's probably ideally suited to dry areas where there's a smaller chance of rain or a likelihood of going to ground.

I doubt it would last as a water carrier it's weirdly thin and stretchy.

Nice one Scott! Looks pretty good for UL overnighters with good weather forecast. I'm with you though, definitely not for multi day trips with that size tarp and fabric. Amazing weight though! Is that a new uqp too?

Thanks craige, I think you are right about just one nighters unless somewhere dry. I was also considering using it as a way to get in the hammock on a ground dwelling trip, should the opportunity arise: hammock, tarp and suspension wouldn't weigh much.

Its a new underquilt I made from a silicone coated ripstop, weighing in at 0.5oz/sq, that's very water resistant but you can force breath through. Weirdly my down stays dry with it and doesn't collect sweat. Boring colour though.
