cleaning pine pitch off of hammock straps

went out for a short three day hike...night one I had to hang from trees. all the trees in this area are ozzing of pitch! I didn't fully realize that they would be such a problem. now the straps are pretty well goobered up with pitch. does anyone have a good way of cleaning 'em, or at the very least fully curing the sap so that I can avoid the sticky mess they create? I'd rather continue using them rather than making a new set and tossing out the old.

Looks like these are some pretty good ideas in an older thread about the same issue.

Climb the mountains and get their good tidings. Nature's peace will flow into you as sunshine flows into trees. Hang your own hammock from them as the winds blow their own freshness into you, and the storms their energy, while cares will drop off like autumn leaves. - John Muir (you know, all but the hammock part)

early on I did search for that thread, but wasn't turning it up for some reason. I ended up using denatured alcohol....it was the only thing that was mentioned on that link , that I already had on hand. worked like a charm! straps are looking like new and are outside drying from the soap n water rinse. thanks to all for the replies.

Rubbing alcohol will take it right off. If there are big clumps, freeze it and break the big clumps off first.
