What to use for DIY tarp? Hike date slipped up on me so must make do!

YIKES! Shakedown hike will be this Friday & Sat nights. I'm the only hanger and a newbie at that! Have made a tablecloth hammock, but do not have a tarp. Thinking of making do with a PEVA vinyl shower curtain--light but only 70"x71" or a regular blue tarp from Harbor Freight. what should I use???

What sporting goods/camping stores are nearby?
    Cabelas,
    Sportsman's Warehouse
    REI
    Even Wal Mart
I think you can get away with using a minimalist sized tarp hung on the diagonal.... not sure about the 70x71 PEVA shower curtain...

    Actually...
Go to a hardware store nearby.
You should be able to pick up a 9x12 painters drop cloth in plastic, either white, black or clear, and then add tarp clips to it, OR use Gorilla Tape as the tie out loop material, and then go with that. I believe there are a few posts on the subject of using the clear plastic drop cloths for tarps...

We did duck tape on the pull outs and it popped lose on a windy night. 2nd try was to use tape plus brass grommets through punched. The ridge lines pulled loose with the clear poly material stretching to failure.

It was very tightly pitched in the ridge and it was rainy with 20 mph winds.

Maybe I'm too late- but the blue polyethylene tarps work great in a pinch. I used one my first year of hammocking, and it kept me perfectly dry.

In the departments of weight, bulk, and noise the poly tarps don't compare well to silnylon or cuben fiber. In terms of cost, ease of use and availability though- they rock. You can easily modify one to try out new tie-out locations and pitch styles. As long as your shakedown hike isn't 65 miles, the slight increase in packweight will be more than offset by the ease of buying one.

If the Kelty Noahs tarp is still on Amazon will cost a little more but can do overnight shipping. Will have a great tarp to use for many future outing. They are heavier than many like but great tarps. I carry the noahs 12

Here is our cheap poly diy tarp. Worked great until the ridge line tie outs blew out.

Can't go wrong with a Wally World blue tarp. It's loud and they don't last long but it will do you right.
