    Need Maccat Alternative

Hey Everybody. My wifes brother made me a hammock stand, nice one, and i owe him. I told him i would take him hiking with the hammock because thats what he wants to do. So I am waiting for a second tarp for the second hammock (the one he will be using). I cant wait much longer as he cant take the cold, so i need to get out before it gets freezing.

I need something that has the same coverage as a maccat deluxe in spinn 130"x104" with about the same weight 10oz or so. Are there any options out there that come close to the weight vs coverage?

    You could ask Scott at:

He's in the process of making me a camo hex tarp. Maybe he can help.

    Thanks for the plug Redbeard.

I've got one Tarp in stock atm. It's a hex, similar to the MacCat, but I think a good bit wider. It's 132 (11') on the ridgeline and about 126 (10'6") wide. All six outside edges are cat-cut and approx. 6' wide. Gray silnylon.
14.6oz. Stuff sack included, free shipping (to the 48 cont. US). $85.00

Here's a visual of my normal three season hex, it's got a 5' wide outside edge. The one I've got made is 6' instead, and a bit wider than this image shows.

If you are in northern KY I have a spare I can loan you for at least one trip.
It is a bit heavier than you are asking for.
It's a SG tarp modified to be similar to a MacCat, it has a 13' ridgeline.
I do have a smaller (loaner) tarp, also a SG modified to Mac Cat type. I think it has a 11' ridgeline.
When you have a backpack on, no matter where you are, you’re home.
PAIN is INEVITABLE. MISERY is OPTIONAL.

I don't think you'll be disappointed Ike - I have the warbonnet big mamajamba and it's a heck of a tarp.

He has designed his tarps to be edge-loaded and pitch crazy tight. When you stake it out, you can really really crank on it, and basically pull all of the stretch out of the tarp right when you set it up. That will seriously minimize the stretch overnight, which is one of the the concerns I think you mentioned about sil tarps.

I think after you've used a quality sil tarp (and Brandon's tarps definitely fit that bill) you'll be pretty dang satisfied with its performance. You now know you have a very sturdy tarp, and even if you end up with something in spinn later, you've got a great backup or loaner.

Trust me, if you keep hammocking, you'll want loaner gear... nothing quite as fun as watching a guy who forgot a tarp scrambling to find cover when it starts drizzling
