when to leave the UQ at home?

am camping with the scouts this weekend at Jordan Lake in NC (near Raleigh).

Temperatures are forecast for highs about 95 with lows near 70.

At what temp does it make sense to leave the UQ at home so that any breeze (thinking positive here) will cool me off.

I would take it as one can put it on if needed but if you do not have it you are out of luck. With that said if you have an UQ protector I have placed nothing, to fleece or clothing between the hammock and the UQ protector and was just right.

At Falls Lake two weeks ago, it was very warm, upper 70s, at bed time. I had my UQ rigged but pushed it aside. At around 3AM my back was chilly so I pulled the UQ under me and went back to sleep. I am guessing it was around 70 at that time. The low at around 6:30 was 67.

I suggest this solution as it leaves your options open. If a t-storm comes through, it can get 10 degrees chillier than predicted for a while.

I agree that it needs to be pretty warm to not need anything under you. I have done the following in warm nights.

If you have an underquilt suspension attached to the hammock suspension (no triangle thingies, etc) you can start the night with the underquilt pulled off beside you and when you wake up with a chill, pull it under and go back to sleep.

You can purposefully cause gaps in your underquilt to keep it from retaining too much heat.

The other thing I have done is just sleep on top of a fleece blanket. It provides enough insulation in the warmer weather. Also insect protection.

Living in Michigan I always had an under quilt. Now that I am down south I plan on using a diy 40* quilt.

If it's too warm for an underquilt, then it's too warm to hike. Stay home in the air conditioning! Lol

If it helps last night was that night for me, no need for an underquilt to hot and to humid, but take it along to cya in case of a lurking CBS.

But in seriousness, I don't know that I'd consider ever going on a trip without insulation. If you really don't need it, you carried a little extra weight for nothing. But if you end up needing it and don't have it, you're going to be pretty unhappy. I'd consider that 1lb a solid investment.
