    Just got back.

    I just got back. Here is the post as to why I had to cut my hike short;

    http://www.whiteblaze.net/forum/showthread.php?t=24431

    I do have a question though. I had my Hammock set up at the Ed Garvey shelter.(not in) I had a great hang but no matter what I did I ended up sleeping on my bug netting. I used my JrB Nest, No Sniveller, and blue wally world pad. I slept in my t-shirt and shorts. Woke up a bit warm I only had my legs covered. But like I said no matter what I did I ended up on my bug netting. I wasn't tossing and turning but just could not get the bug netting to stay on top. I did not sleep well as it was my first night of the trip and that part was expected. I was sleepng 30 to 45 min at a time then I would wake up and try to readjust so the bug net was on top. Any Idea?

    What model were you using?

    HH ULBA, MacCat Deluxe Trap. I do need to cut some more off my pad but I don't think that is the problem. I did not find myself off the pad. I just woke up looking at the bottom of my hammock wrapped over my ridge line and bug net on one side and under me. Hope fully we can get this mid atlantic gathering together then hopefully a real pro will show up and show me the error of my ways.

    How wide is your pad and were you using the side tie-outs?

    I hadn't had any problems when I used my HH and ccp.
    Is that too much to ask? Girls with frikkin' lasers on their heads?

    I never measured it but it is the standard Blue pad sold at Wally World. It does extend about an inch or two wider than my shoulders. And yes I was using my side tieouts. I am at a loss. I was frustrated and started thinking my hammock was defective. But I really don't hink that is the problem. i am thinking I am doing something wrong and just can't for the life of me figure it out.

    i'm not a HH user but one thing that i wonder about is the ridge line. has it been altered (longer...shorter) so that it could change the tautness of the hammock bed?
    how much have you used that hammock?
    and sorry to hear about your knee. but at least you can still camp, even if you don't do much walking.
    I too will something make and joy in it's making

    The Hammock is stock. I have not modified it at all (yet). The Hammock is still relatively new I have slept in it 4 times but it has been up and I have been in it about 20 to 25 times. I am pretty sure it is stretched as far as it is going to stretch. When I hang it I do pull it as tight as I possibly can. Yea I had the same though about camping as well. just have to wait till i am released by the doc to start using my leg again. I am supposed to stay off it and RICE it then go back for a follow up. They were talking about an MRI and possible scope. I am hoping to not have to have it cut on. But will cross that bridge when I get there. I just want to be back out there. Gettin old sux.

    Rock cuts his pad to a mummy shape to prevent it from slipping around in the HH from what I understand.

    Yea I thought about doing that as well but I only cut it so it would be shorter. I found it to still be a bit to long but did not see any slippeage problems that I am aware of. Now that I think about it the Hammock was slipping under the pad. HMMMMM I did not wake up off the pad. And it did provide the added insulatin I was looking for.

    Rock said the wide part at the foot tends to twist in a HH and it ends up sliding sideways during the night. This sounds like a pausible reason for why you ended up on the bug net.
